STAC BASEBALL: AULT TOSSES 1-HITTER; WAVERLY BLANKS SUS. VALLEY, 2-0 (April 27, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
CONKLIN, N.Y — Waverly scored a pair of runs early, and senior Ronin Ault made it stand with a masterful 1-hitter to lead the Wolverines to a 2-0 win over Susquehanna Valley in STAC baseball action.

"Ronin (Ault) filled the zone today with excellent command of all pitches," said longtime Waverly coach Kyle McDuffee. "He was locked in.

"And, we did a nice job in first couple innings manufacturing a pair of runs," he noted.

"This is a big quality win," added McDuffee. "There was a good sectional playoff type feel for the game.

Senior Hogan Shaw and sophomore Jack Pipher led off the game with back-to-back singles for the Wolverines, and junior Matthias Welles plated the first run of the game with a line-drive RBI single to right field.

Freshman Axel Murray led off the second inning with a double stole third, and scored on a one-out RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore Sam Cheresnowsky to make it 2-0.

SV's Mike Macarak stroked a two-out single to right field in the bottom of the second inning, but Ault recorded the third out on a groundout on the next pitch.

The Sabers had three batters reach on walks the remainder of the game, but only one reached second base.

The Wolverines only two hits — a sixth-inning triple by Ault and a lead-off single by junior Justin Koenig in the seventh inning — the remainder of the game.

Welles singled and drove in one run, while Murray doubled and scored one run, and Hogan Shaw singled and scored one run to pace Waverly's six hit attack.

Ault tripled in the win, while Pipher and Koenig each singled, and Cheresnowsky drove in one run.

Ault fanned 10 and walked three in a complete-game one-hitter to earn the win.

Waverly, now 10-0 and ranked sixth in the state in Class A, returns to action Friday when it hosts state-ranked Oneonta, 9-4 and ranked fifth in Class B.
