TIOGA CENTER — Marathon scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, and it proved to be the difference in an 8-7 win over Tioga to snap its three-game win streak here Thursday afternoon in IAC Small School baseball action.
The game was the resumption of one that started April 14 and was suspended due to storms after three innings with the Olympians leading 5-2.
Marathon tacked on runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-2 lead.
The Tigers closed the gap to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first scored on an error, and Jaxon Bidwell's RBI double accounted for the second run.
Marathon added a run in the top of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to extend its lead to 8-4.
Anthony Powell singled to lead off the home half of the seventh, and ended up scoring on a wild pitch.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Cam Ross stroked a two-RBI single t trim the deficit to 8-7, but the next batter grounded out to end the game.
Ross singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs to pace Tioga's eight-hit attack, while Cooper Dember singled and drove in two runs, and Bidwell doubled and knocked in one run.
Rought doubled and scored three runs for the Tigers, while Rought singled and scored two runs, Powell singled and scored one run, and Max Paugh added a single.
Jacob Guiles had the best turn on the mound for the Tigers, allowing two runs — one earned — on four hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one.
Tioga, now 5-5, hosts Newfield Friday.
