IAC SOFTBALL: MEZZATESTA, FEEKO POWER TIOGA IN 16-1 ROMP OVER NEWARK VALLEY (May 5, 2026)

NEWARK VALLEY — Seniors Lilly Mezzatesta and RaeAnne Feeko drove in five runs apiece to pace Tioga's 15-hit attack in support of a complete-game effort by 8th-grader Olivia Shugars a 16-1 five-inning win over Newark Valley here Tuesday afternoon in IAC softball action.

The Tigers took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then Feeko's grand slam home run in the second keyed a seven-run second-inning rally that also featured an RBI double by Mezzatesta and RBI singles by freshman Kate Kithcart and sophomore Kyah Nelson.

Kithcart started the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning, and Mezzatesta and freshman Irie Lynch followed with consecutive RBI doubles to make it 12-0.

The Cardinals got on the board in the home half of the third inning, but the Tigers answered with four runs in the fourth inning in a rally that featured an RBI double by 8th-grader Maddy Rogers, and a two-run single by Mezzatesta.

Mezzatesta was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBI, while Kithcart singled three times, scored three runs and drove in two runs, and Feeko homered and singled, scored two runs, and had five RBI.

Nelson singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Rogers doubled and singled, and drove in one run in the win, while Lynch doubled and drove in one run, Mya Freese singled and scored two runs, Shugars scored two runs, and freshman Bri Lounsbury crossed the plate once.

Shugars allowed one run on two hits in five innings. She fanned six and walked two.

Tioga, now 11-3, returns to action Thursday at Union Springs.
