STAC BASEBALL: WAVERLY RALLIES PAST OWEGO, 6-3 (May 5, 2026)

WAVERLY — Senior Ronin Ault delivered the big blow, and junior Ben Shaw the go-ahead run in Waverly's come-from-behind, 6-3, win over Owego Free Academy here Tuesday afternoon in STAC Central Division baseball action.

The River Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, with two coming on a two-out error, and the final run on an RBI single by Connor Kotski.

The Wolverines answered immediately as sophomore Sammy Cheresnowsky and senior Hogan Shaw each reached base on errors to start the inning. With one out, Ault drove the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence to tie the game at 3-3.

Junior Matthias Welles re-ignited the rally with a single, but was immediately replaced on the base paths by junior Justin Koenig via a fielder's choice.

After Koenig stole second, Ben Shaw lined a two-out RBI single up the middle to give the Wolverines a 4-3 lead. Following a walk to freshman Axel Murray, senior Daltton Davis lined an RBI single into centerfield to make it 5-3.

Murray pitched around two base-runners in the fourth and sixth innings. In the seventh, he struck out the first two hitters, then walked the next two to reach the pitch-count limit. He was relieved by sophomore Jack Pipher, who registered a strikeout to end the game and record the save.

Murray earned the win, allowing three runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out nine and walking four in 6 2/3 innings.

Ault was 3-for-4 with a home run, one run scored, and four RBI to pace Waverly's 11-hit attack, while Ben Shaw singled twice, scored one runs and drove in one run, and Cheresnowsky singled twice and scored two runs.

Koenig singled and scored one run, while Welles added a single, and Hogan Shaw scored one run.

Waverly, now 12-1, hosts Oneonta Thursday afternoon.
