NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA EDGES SAYRE, 1-0 (12 PHOTOS) (May 7, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportWYSOX — Boom Thompson's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning provided the game's only run in Towanda's 1-0 win over Sayre here Thursday afternoon in NTL baseball action.
Towanda's Avery Butts and Sayre senior Karter Green duked it out in a classic pitcher's duel.
Butts tossed a three-hit shutout, with six strikeouts and three walks in seven innings to earn the win.
Karter Green was tagged with a tough-luck loss, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking five in six innings.
Gage Evans walked to lead-off the bottom of the fifth, and a flyable off the bat of Butts was dropped in right field, but sophomore Tucker Green recovered and threw to second base for a force out of Evans.
After Karter Green registered a strikeout, he walked Hudson Stevens, setting the stage for Evans, who hit a 1-1 pitch into right field to plate the eventual game-winner.
Junior Shaine Strickland doubled, while senior Logan Zingeser and junior Declan Barry each added singles to account for Sayre's three hits.
Sayre, now 2-15, returns to action Saturday at Tioga.
