NTL SOFTBALL: HILEYS, DELOSA LEAD ATHENS TO 7-3 WIN OVER CANTON (24 PHOTOS) (May 7, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Junior Gretchan Hiley turned in another strong performance in the pitcher's circle, and she, along with senior Maddie Hiley and freshman Abby DeLosa, delivered key hits in a 7-3 win over Canton here Thursday afternoon in NTL softball action.
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the third inning when DeLosa led off with a line-drive single to left field.
After sophomore Kendall Galasso moved her over with a sacrifice bunt, DeLosa scored on a check-swing single into right field off the bat of Gretchan Hiley to make it 1-0.
After Gretchan Hiley stole second base, Maddie Hiley lined an RBI single to left field to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats put the game away with five runs in the fourth inning.
Freshman Mya Allen and sophomore Abby Ahern stroked back-to-back singles to ignite the rally, and DeLosa followed with a two-RBI single to make it 4-0.
After a line-drive single by Galasso, Gretchan Hiley ripped an RBI double, and Maddie Hiley hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-0.
After a Canton error, junior McKenna Jarvis capped the Wildcat scoring with a bunt single to score courtesy-runner freshman Maci Campbell.
The Warriors, who had just one hit through the first six innings, rapped out five hits to score three runs in the seventh inning.
Gretchan Hiley earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out 10 and walking none in seven innings.
Gretchan Hiley doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, while DeLosa singled twice, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and Maddie Hiley singled and drove in two runs.
Galasso and Ahern each singled and scored a run in the win, while Jarvis singled and drove in a run, and Allen and sophomore Andrea Davis each added a single.
Athens, now 12-2, returns to action Friday at Hughesville.
