NTL BASEBALL: WHEELER TOSSES 3-HIT GEM; ATHENS BLANKS SELINSGROVE, 2-0 (May 8, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Junior Kam Wheeler tossed a 3-hitter to lead Athens to a 2-0 win over Selinsgrove here Friday afternoon in non-league baseball action.
The Wildcats took the lead early with a run in the bottom of the second.
Wheeler worked a walk to lead off the frame, and courtesy-runner junior Ty Owen scored moments later when junior Connor Davidson slammed a 3-1 pitch into the gap for an RBI double.
The Wildcats added an insurance run in the fifth inning, and Wheeler was again in the middle of it.
Wheeler led off the inning with a single, and Owen, in again as a courtesy-runner, scored on a two-out error off the bat of freshman Shea Davidson to make it 2-0.
Wheeler issued all three of his walks in the game in the fifth inning to load the bases, but induced a fly ball to left fielder junior Alex McQuay to escape the jam unscathed.
Wheeler pitched around a two-out single in the top of the seventh to record the complete game.
Wheeler struck out three and walked three in seven inning to get the win.
Selinsgrove falls to 7-9 on the season.
Athens, now 15-2, will finish up a suspended game at Wellsboro Monday, then hosts Troy Tuesday in the regular-season finale.
