STAC BASEBALL: AULT HOMERS AGAIN; WAVERLY ROLLS OVER OWEGO, 12-3 (13 PHOTOS) (May 8, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
OWEGO — Senior Ronin Ault homered for the third consecutive game as Waverly completed its three-game sweep of Owego Free Academy with a 12-3 win here Friday afternoon in STAC Central Division baseball action.

The Wolverines manufactured a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Axel Murray worked a six-pitch walk, stole second and third bases, then scored on a one-out sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Sam Cheresnowsky.

The River Hawks took advantage of a Waverly error to score two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead, and had the bases loaded, but sophomore reliever Griff Walter registered a strikeout to escape the jam.

Sophomore Jack Pipher led off the top of the fourth inning with a walk, and Ault ripped an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence for his fifth home run of the season to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead.

Junior Matthias Welles re-ignited the rally with a line-drive single into left field, and later scored on an Owego error to make it 4-2.

Walter pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the fifth, and the Wolverines put the game away with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Pipher led off the inning with a single, and Ault worked a six-pitch walk, while Pipher stole second and third bases.

Pipher scampered home on an RBI groundout off the bat of Welles to make it 5-2.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Murray lined a two-RBI single to left field, and Walter helped his own cause with an RBI single up the middle to make it 8-2.

After a single by Cheresnowsky, senior Hogan Shaw capped the rally with an RBI single.

The Wolverines tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh inning in a rally highlighted by an RBI single by junior Justin Koenig to extend its lead to 12-2.

Murray singled twice, scored two runs, stole three bases, and drove in two runs to pace Waverly's nine-hit attack, while Ault homered, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs, and Koenig singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run.

Pipher, who stole three bases, and Welles each singled and scored two runs in the win, while Hogan Shaw, Walter and Cheresnowsky each singled and drove in one run, junior Ben Shaw had one RBI, and Ahren McCarthy crossed the plate once.

Walter earned the win in relief, pitching 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit, while striking out two and walking one.

Senior Daltton Davis started for the Wolverines, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. He struck out one and walked three.

Waverly, now 13-1, returns to action Monday at Windsor.
