NTL BASEBALL: GREEN PITCHES GEM IN SAYRE'S 2-1 WIN OVER SULLIVAN COUNTY (May 11, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
LAPORTE — Senior Karter Green pitched an absolute gem in his final high school start to lift Sayre to a 2-1 win over Sullivan County here Monday afternoon in non-league boys baseball action.

"Tonight was a bittersweet win," said Sayre coach Todd Green. "Bitter by seeing this game as the last we will see senior Karter Green on the mound in his high school career in a Sayre Redskins jersey.

"Sweet by seeing this young man and his teammates battle at the end of season to come out with a victory over Sullivan County," he noted.

"Tonight the chips fell our way and we happened to come out on top," said Green. "I am extremely proud of this group of young men. They have overcome many years of ridicule of losses, they faced all the adversity of teammates transfers, they have hugged the 'I quit' button for years.

"This group is finally realizing they can play with the other teams, they can make a difference if they all give equal effort, they can actually win," added Green. "To me that's the proudest point of any coaching endeavor I have ever undertaken. I am proud of these young men."

The Redskins scored in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead.

Junior Shaine Strickland singled up the middle to lead off the game, then stole second, and scored on a one-out RBI single to left field by Karter Green.

The Griffins threatened in the first inning, but Larter Green pitched out of jam.

After Green struck out the first two batters, Sullivan County loaded the bases on a single, a hit batsman, and a walk, but Green registered another strikeout to escape the jam unscathed.

With two outs in the second inning, sophomore Brayden Northrup stroked a single, and Strickland scored an RBI double to left field to make it 2-0. The Redskins loaded the bases on walks to sophomore Tucker Green and Karter Green, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Sullivan County got their last two hits of the game in the third inning, but Karter Green struck out the last two batters of the frame to leave runners stranded on first and third.

Only one more Griffin batter reached base until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Karter Green walked the lead-off batter in the seventh, but struck out the next two, and reached his pitch limit.

Strickland relieved, and the first batter against reached on an error, which also plated Sullivan County's run to close the gap to 2-1. Strickland induced a come-backer to the mound on the next pitch to end the game.

Karter Green fanned 16 and walked three, while allowing three hits in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Strickland earned the save.

Strickland doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Sayre's five-hit attack, while Karter Green singled and drove in a run, Northrup singled and scored one run, and senior Kyshon Kole added a single.

Sayre, now 3-15, wraps up the 2026 season Wednesday when it hosts Millville.
