STAC BASEBALL: DADDONA, MURRAY COMBINE ON FOUR-HIT SHUTOUT IN 7-0 WIN OVER NORWICH (May 12, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Senior Porter Daddona and freshman Axel Murray combined on a four-hit shutout to lead state-ranked Waverly to a 7-0 win over Norwich here Tuesday afternoon in STAC baseball action.
Daddona earned the win, allowing four hits in five innings, while striking out four and walking two.
Murray closed out the game with two innings of hitless relief. He fanned two and walked one.
Norwich loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning, but Daddona induced a pop-up on the infield, and registered a strikeout to escape the jam unscathed.
The Wolverines, ranked fourth in Class A, scored three unearned runs in the home half of the second — the first scoring on a groundout off the bat of Murray, and the other two on a two-RBI single by senior Hogan Shaw — to take a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Sam Cheresnowsky doubled to lead off the fourth inning and later scored on an error to make it 4-0.
Like the first inning, Daddona registered a strikeout to escape a bases-load jam in the fifth inning.
In the home half of the fifth, junior Ben Shaw belted a two-out double and scored on an RBI single by Murray to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Wolverines added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI double by senior Ronin Ault, who later stole home to make it 7-0.
Murray singled twice and drove in two runs to lead Waverly's six-hit attack, while Hogan Shaw singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Ault doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run.
Cheresnowsky and Ben Shaw each doubled and scored one run in the win, and senior Daltton Davis and junior Matthias Welles each scored one run.
Waverly, now 16-1, wraps up the regular season Thursday at Chenango Forks.
On Saturday, Waverly, the Central Division champ, will square off with Metro Division champ Vestal at 10 a.m. in the STAC semifinals at Mirabito Stadium, while East champion Oneonta squares off with West champ Horseheads at 1 p.m.
The winners play for the league title at 4 p.m.
