NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE TOPS SULLIVAN COUNTY, 13-9 (May 12, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
LAPORTE — Sayre plated five runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-0 lead, and held on for a 13-9 win over Sullivan County here Tuesday afternoon in non-league softball action.

The win snaps an 11-game losing skein for the Redskins, who are now 2-15.

Seniors Olivia Thompson and Rylee Lantz singled in the first inning, and junior Zoey Ward belted a two-out three-run home run — the first of her career — over the left field fence to give the Redskins a 3-0 lead.

After Ward retired the Griffins in order in the bottom of the first inning, and pitched around a lead-off error in the second inning, Sayre extended it lead in the top of the third inning.

Thompson led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI single by McKenna Parish to make it 4-0.

With Sayre up 5-0 and the bases loaded, senior Mikyah Brown grounded a two-RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 7-0.

With two outs, freshman Allia Bennett capped the rally with an RBI single to left field.

Sullivan County answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the Redskins responded in the top of the fourth.

Lantz drove in a run with a single, and Ward plated a run with a sacrifice fly in a three run rally that put Sayre up 11-2.

The Griffins closed the gap to 11-8 after six innings, but the Redskins added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Thompson belted a one-out double to ignite the rally, and scored on a two-out RBI triple y Lantz, who scored on an error to make it 13-8.

Sullivan County had back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the seventh, and scored one run, but Ward retired the final three batters to preserve the win.

Thompson had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and three runs scored, and Lantz had three hits, including a triple, four runs scored and two RBI to pace Sayre's 13-hit attack, while Brown stroked three singles, scored one run, and drove in two runs.

Ward homered, scored one run, and had four RBI in the win, while Bennett singled and knocked in one run, Parrish singled and scored one run, and sophomore Emily Strickland scored three runs and had one RBI.

Ward earned the win, allowing three earned runs on nine hits, while striking out four and walking one in seven innings.

Sayre returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Sugar Valley Rural Charter.
