OVID, N.Y. — Tioga’s Vida Rossi and Gavin Albrecht established two records apiece at the South Seneca Track & Field Invitational here Friday while Dominic Palmer impressed onlookers in the pentathlon.

Rossi broke the meet record in the long jump with a first-place leap of 17-9 and set a new school record in the 100-meter dash with a second-place time of 12.62 seconds.

Albrecht broke the pole vault meet record (13 feet) he set here last year, clearing 13-6 to repeat as the winner. He also broke the school record in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in second with a time of 11.28 seconds.

Palmer won the pentathlon with 2574 points, finishing 120 points ahead of the runner-up. He won two of the five events — the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.85 seconds and the shot put with a heave of 37-0 ¼.

He placed second in the 1500 run in 5:15.15, and claimed third in the high jump, clearing 5-3 ¾, and the long jump with a distance of 16-11.5.

In the boys meet, James Miller finished second in the 400 hurdles, clocking 1:01.76, and Talon Wood was the runner-up in the 3000 steeplechase in 11:25.17.

Markel Watkins took third in the triple jump, leaping 36-2 ¾.

Bailey Rugh was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 34-1.

Other top 15 place-winners were Miller, 12th in the 200 in 25.29 seconds; Watkins, 13th in the discus with a toss of 95 feet; and Caden Rapp, who posted a 2:27.65 in the 800 to take 15th.

Joining Rossi as point scorers in the girls event were pole vaulters Amber and Audrey Bennett and Natalie Kemp in the 400. Amber Bennett was third at 6-9 and Aubrey Bennett took sixth at six feet. Kemp recorded a time of 1:07.05.

Amber Bennett posted a time of 1:21.21 to finish seventh in the 400 hurdles and Reese Mills was seventh in the 2000 steeplechase in 9:22.83.

Grace Howey was eighth in the 100 in 13.62 seconds and 100 hurdles and Sadie Marshall came in eighth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.36 seconds.

Also placing among the top 15 were Amber Bennett, 10th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.16 seconds; Maren Seaver, 14th in the 400 hurdles in 1:29.16; Cora Szymanski, 14th in the 1500 at 7:12.93; and Sara Prough, 15th with a discus throw of 63-2

Marcus Whitman won the boys team title with 105 points and Tioga was fourth out of 17 scoring teams with 50.

Red Creek was the girls team champion with 72 points while Tioga was 10th out of 17 scoring teams with 26.5.

The IAC Pentathlon is Monday at Odessa-Montour while the IAC championships will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Trumansburg.
