SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: WAVERLY CROWNS FOUR CHAMPS AT CLASS B MEET (24 PHOTOS) (May 27, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportITHACA — Waverly crowned four — sophomores Gianna Soprano and Kaylin Twedt, 8th-grader Kezlynn DeKay, and senior Troy Beeman — Class B champions here Wednesday afternoon at the Section IV Track & Field Championships.
"We had quite a few personal- and season-best performances this evening," said Waverly coach Dave Hogan.
"We’re really proud of all of our kids and their continued efforts this postseason," added Hogan. "Most notably, four Wolverines became Section IV Class B Champions tonight."
The top three place-finishers in every event advance to next week's state qualifier. Others will advance based on "provisional" performances and "automatic" performances. The full field will be determined Friday.
LADY WOLVERINES FINISH THIRD AT CLASS B MEETSoprano won the pole vault and freshman Brynna Twedt was second. Both cleared the bar at 7-feet, 6-inches, and Soprano won by virtue of fewer misses.
Soprano placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:11.86, and senior Haley Larrabee was fourth in 1:13.97.
DeKay won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.71 seconds, and Brynna Twedt was fourth in 19.29 seconds.
Kaylin Twedt won the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.5 seconds.
Soprano, Kaylin Twedt, DeKay, and senior Kaitlyn Sutton teamed to place second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 51.66 seconds.
Kaylin Twedt and DeKay teamed with Sutton and senior Haley Larrabee to finish second in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:20.61.
Senior Mackenzie Chamberlain placed third in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:33.39.
Freshman Leraya Teeter placed third in the discus with a toss of 86-feet, 8-inches, and sophomore Kendall Rockwell was sixth at 75-feet, 11-inches.
Teeter was fifth in the shot put with a heave of 25-feet, 5-inches, and Rockwell was sixth at 24-feet, 10 1/2-inches.
Sutton placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.33 seconds.
Freshman Miranda Ferger finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 27-feet, 8 3/4-inches. Ferger was sixth in the long jump at 14-feet, 3-inches.
Sophomore Miah Correll finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:55.73.
BEEMAN LOGS WAVERLY BOYS' ONLY WINBeeman won the discus with a toss of 144-feet, 6-inches, and junior Carson Rockwell was eighth at 99-feet, 10-inches.
Junior Jayden Washington placed third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:04.47, and freshman James Cole was seventh in 2:09.43.
Washington, junior Chase Hine, sophomore Hayden Montanye, and Cole teamed to place third in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:11.52.
Juniors Chase Wheeler and Rhylee Stotler, sophomore Jesse Lantz, and freshman Maddex Presher teamed to finish third in the 400-meter relay in a time of 46.32 seconds.
Stotler placed third in the pole vault at 12-feet, 6-inches, and Lantz was fourth at 11-feet.
Presher finished fourth in the high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches, and sophomore Jaxon Chandler was sixth at 5-feet, 3-inches.
Montanye placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:54.54.
Freshman Wyatt Chandler finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 20.11 seconds.
Sophomore Eli Thomas placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 30-feet, 5 1/4-inches.
Senior Hayden Howe finished seventh in the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.6 seconds.
Freshman Maddex Presher was seventh in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.83 seconds, and junior Chase Wheeler was ninth in 12.03 seconds.
Wheeler finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.32 seconds, and senior Andrew Larrabee was 11th in 25.11 seconds.
Freshman Garret Akins was ninth in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 12:24.51.
Freshman Ethan Reedy was ninth in the long jump at 16-feet, and Thomas was 12th at 14-feet, 5 1/2-inches.
Waverly returns to action Wednesday at Thursday at the Section IV State Qualifier at Union-Endicott.
