H.S. WRESTLING: PA. GIRLS ROLL TO 66-36 WIN OVER NEW YORK AT DUALS ON DESMOND (21 PHOTOS) (June 8, 2026)

ATHENS — A foursome of Athens wrestlers — Joyce Clink, Abigail Wagner, Sophia Barrett and Hanna Rathbun — led the Pa. team to a convincing, 66-36, win over New York here Saturday evening at the third annual Duals on Desmond Girls Dual.

Tioga's Kyah Nelson kicked off the Dual, which was moved to the grounds of Athens Area High School due to the threat of severe weather, with a pin of Williamsport's Mia Davis in 1:37 in their 190-pound match-up to give New York a 5-0 lead.

At 160 pounds, Jersey Shores's Isabella Gotschall pinned Waverly's Abi Reedy in 69 seconds to give Pa. A 19-5 lead.

In the "Future Star" 136-pound match-up, Waverly's Amelia Wright decked Sullivan County's Lydia Lentz in the first period to trim New York's deficit to 19-15.

At 155 pounds, Oxford's Lily Karn pinned Athens' Skylynn Payne 1in 1:40 to put New York ahead, 20-19. 

In what may have been the most entertaining match of the night, Clink jumped ahead early and topped Waverly's Emma Vanderhoof in a wild 17-9 decision at 124 pounds to give Pa. a 23-21 lead.

Hughesville's Avery Earnst followed with a pin of Waverly's Gianna Zienieuk at 148 pounds in 1:21 to make it 28-21.
 
At 170 pounds, Wagner edged Waverly's Elona Holmes in a hard-fought, 3-2, battle to extend the Pa. lead to 31-22.

At 100 pounds, Barrett pinned Newark Valley's Hadley Merrill in 64 seconds to give Pa. a 46-32 lead
 
Rathbun pinned Ithaca Rayna Coller in 1:39 at 130 pounds to make it 51-32.
