DISTRICT 6 LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): CORNING-PP BLOWS GAME OPEN LATE IN 23-12 WIN OVER WAVERLY (18 PHOTOS) (June 19, 2026)

WAVERLY — Corning-Painted Post poured 10 runs across the plate in the top of the sixth inning to blow open a close game in a 23-12 win over Waverly here Friday evening in pool play action of the District 6 Minors Division baseball playoffs.

Waverly dug a deep hole early, trailing 11-1 after 2 1/2 innings, but scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning, and three more in the fourth to close the gap to 11-9.

C-PP gave itself a four-run cushion, at 13-9, with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, then blew the game open with 10 runs in the sixth to take a 23-9 lead.

Ethan Gray-Wright was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI to pace Waverly's 12-hit attack, while Nate Eck doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in three runs, and Marcel Phillips singled twice and scored three runs.

Ryker Roberts singled twice and scored two runs for Waverly, while Henry Cheresnowsky singled, scored four runs, and knocked in one run, Leevi Sharpsteen singled and drove in one run, Easton Matthews added a single, and Ryder Wolcott and Helen Roskow each crossed the plate once.

Waverly, now 1-1 in pool play, returns to action Tuesday at Bath.
