VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: TIOGA'S ALBRECHT HEADLINES SUPER 7 AS 'BOYS ATHLETE OF THE SPRING' (June 23, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Tioga senior Gavin Albrecht claimed New York State gold for the second straight season, and is the Valley Sports Report All-Valley "Boys Athlete of the Spring."

Albrecht began his postseason march by winning Section IV, Class C gold with a school-record vault of 15-feet, 1-inch. 

He cleared 15-feet to win the State Qualifier, then won the state title with a vault of 15 feet.

Albrecht won the pole vault at IACs with an effort of 13-feet, 6-inches. He was second in 100-meter dash in 11.77 seconds, and second in the long jump at 18-feet, 5 1/4-inches.

Ronin Ault, senior, Waverly baseball:
Ault was 9-0 with one save, and a 0.96 ERA on the season. 

Ault was 3-0 in the postseason, earning both wins in Waverly's 2-1 series win over M-E in the Class A Championship series, and the win in the state quarterfinals.

On the season, he fanned 73 and walked 25 in 58 1/3 innings, and allowed only 31 hits for a 0.96 WHIP. Opponents hit .152 against him.

Ault also hit .506 with 44 hits in 87 at-bats, and walked 14 times for a .569 on-base percentage. He had an .839 slugging percentage and a 1.408 OPS.

Ault had 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 37 RBI, 35 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases.

Nick Grazul, senior, Athens baseball: Grazul hit .456 (31 hits in 68 ABs) with seven doubles, one home run, 14 RBI, 25 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. He walked 12 times for a .548 on-base percentage, and had a 1.151 OPS. Opponents hit .250 against him.

On the mound, Grazul was 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA. He fanned 38 and walked 16 in 18 innings. Opponents hit .113 against him.

Brady Flynn, junior, Athens baseball: Flynn hit .478 with (31 hits in 67 ABs) with five doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, six stolen bases, and 24 runs scored. He walked 12 times for a for a .560 on-base percentage, and had a 1.142 OPS.

On the mound, Flynn was 5-2 with a 3.41 ERA. He struck out 18 and walked 21 in 26 2/3 innings of work.

Jack Pipher, junior, Waverly baseball: Pipher hit .342 (27 hits in 79 ABs) with five doubles, three triples, three home runs, 19 RBI, 34 runs scored, and 18 stolen bases. He walked 16 times for a .475 on-base percentage, and logged a 1.070 OPS.

On the mound, Pipher was 1-1 with one save, and a 0.89 ERA. He fanned 19 and walked three in 15 2/3 innings, and opponents hit .232 against him.

Graham Wanck, junior, Athens track & field:
Wanck, who missed the majority of the cross country season with an injury, worked his way into peak form during the spring track season, and won a lot of points for the Wildcats in the process.

Wanck won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:27.07 at the District 4, Class 3A Championships. He placed second in the 3,200-meter run (9:45.01), and also medaled with a seventh-place finish in the 800 (2:06.19).

At States, Wanck was 21st in the 1,600 in a time of 4:25.56.

Troy Beeman, senior, Waverly track & field: A consistent points-winner in the throwing events this spring, Beeman won a Section IV Class B title in the discus with a career-best throw of 146-feet, 6-inches. He was 12th at States at 133-feet, 3-inches.

Beeman placed second in the discus at the STAC Championships at 144-feet, 3-inches.
