Valley Sports ReportMANSFIELD — Towanda scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open and close out a 14-4 four-inning win over Athens here Tuesday evening in the championship game of the District 15 Little League Baseball Minors Division playoffs.
It was Towanda's third win over Athens — one in pool play, and two in bracket play.
Towanda took a quick 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Athens closed the gap to 3-2 with two runs in the top of the second inning, but Towanda answered with two runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Athens scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 5-4, but Towanda answered with nine runs in the home half to close out the game via the 10-run "mercy" rule. All nine runs were unearned.
Morgan Robinson singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Carly Bishop singled and scored two runs to account for Athens' two hits.
Ryleigh Robinson and Mary Frisbie each drove in one run for Athens, and Jaelyn Ashby scored one run.
Breah Wilcox fanned nine in 3 2/3 innings for Athens.
