DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): ATHENS RIDES FAST START TO 9-4 WIN OVER WELLSBORO IN QUARTERFINALS (13 PHOTOS) (June 30, 2026)

ATHENS — Athens built a five-run lead early on its way to a 9-4 win over Wellsboro here Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals of the District 15 Little League Baseball Minors Division playoffs.

Athens, playing as the visiting team, scored twice in the top of the second inning, then added three runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Wellsboro closed the gap to 5-2 with two runs in the bottom the third inning, but Athens sealed the win with a run in the fifth inning, and three more in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-2.

Colson Bishop earned the win on the mound for Athens, allowing two runs, while striking out seven and walking two in 3 1/3 hitless innings.

Jorey Raupers earned the save, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out six and walking three in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Briley Owens doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Witten Altieri singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Bishop doubled, scored one runs and knocked in one run.

Jorey Raupers doubled in the win, while Hudson Glielmi singled and scored one run, Jett Raupers added a single, Rocco Powers had two RBI, Moyer Campbell scored two runs, Cooper Birdsall crossed the plate once, and Holden Zuckerman drove in one run. 

Athens will host Canton Friday in the Minors Division semifinals.
