SECTION 3 LITTLE LEAGUE (SOFTBALL): SELINSGROVE CRUISES TO 12-1 WIN OVER ATHENS; FORCES WINNER-TAKE-ALL GAME FOR SECTION TITLE (24 PHOTOS) (July 3, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Selinsgrove scored three runs in the top of the first inning on its way to a 12-1 five-inning win over Athens here Friday evening to force a winner-take-all championship game in the Section III Little League Softball championship round.

Athens answered with one run in the home half of the first inning, but Selinsgrove blew the game open with seven runs — all of them unearned — to take a 10-1 lead.

Selinsgrove brought the 10-run mercy rule into play with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend the lead to 12-1.

Selinsgrove took advantage of six Athens errors and nine base on balls to cruise to the win.

Terriana Orshal singled and drove in one run, while Sophia Barrett and Livia Powers each singled to account for Athens' three hits. Sadie Wanck scored Athens' run.

Molly McGrath and Hadley Liechty share the pitching duties and each had one strikeout.

The two teams square off again Saturday at 11 a.m. in a winner-take-all championship game. (NOTE: The start time was moved up due to the holiday weekend.)
