ATHENS — Towanda scored first, but Athens answered with a deluge of runs in a 17-3 four-inning win here Wednesday night to earn its way into the championship game of the District 15 Little League Baseball Majors Division playoffs.

Athens, which lost in the opening round, has now won four straight games — outscoring its opponents, 61-6 — to earn a shot at the title. Athens will face winner's bracket champ Wellsboro Friday, needing two wins in the double-elimination tournament.

Towanda opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning, but Athens answered with five runs in the home half of the first, then scored four runs in the second inning to take a 9-3 lead, before putting the game away with eight runs in the third inning.

Landon Briggs singled twice and drove in one run to pace Athens' eight-hit attack, while Easton Hubbard singled, scored two runs, had two RBI, Wyatt Raupers singled, scored three runs, and knocked in one run, and Parker Collum singled and scored three times.

Lincoln Miller doubled and scored one run in the win, while Leo Loziere singled and scored two runs, Tucker Owens singled and scored one run, Connor Robinson scored two runs and had two RBI Bentley Stephens scored one run and knocked in one run, and Beau Hall added one RBI.

Miller started for Athens and allowed three unearned runs on two hits, with one strikeout and one walk in one inning.

Hubbard earned the win, striking out four and walking two in two hitless innings, and Robinson finished off the game with a perfect inning of relief and two strikeouts.
