SAYRE — Athens completed an impressive 8-0 run through the District 15 Little League playoffs to capture the Minors Division baseball championship.

Athens scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie on its way to a 7-3 win over Southern Tioga here Sunday afternoon.

Athens scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 9-8 win over Southern Tioga Wednesday in the winner's bracket finale.

Southern Tioga bounced back with an 11-1 win over Towanda Friday to earn another shot at Athens in the championship round of the double-elimination tournament.

Athens, playing as the visiting team, scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Southern Tioga answered with two runs in the home half of the frame to tie the game.

The game remained 2-2 deadlock until Athens plate three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Southern Tioga closed the gap to 5-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Athens scored twice in the top of the fifth to make it 7-3.

Witten Altieri singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Athens' six-hit attack, while Colson Bishop doubled and had two RBI, and Jett Raupers and Briley Owens each singled and scored two runs.

Moyer Campbell singled and scored one run in the win, while Hudson Glielmi and Holden Zuckerman each had one RBI, and Jorey Raupers scored one run.

Jorey Raupers earned the win for Athens, allowing three runs — two earned — on two hits, while striking out eight and walking three.

Colson Bishop fanned four and walked one in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save.

Athens will now face District 33 champ RTL Friday in the opening round of the Section 3 Tournament.
