Valley Sports ReportATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Waverly Wrestling Club posted a 4-1 record on Day 1 of the Summer National Elite Duals here Monday to place second in Pool E.
Wrestling as the "Fighting Possums," the Waverly Wrestling Club also has wrestlers from Tioga, Towanda, Horseheads, and Wyalusing.
WWC opened the day with a 39-18 win over Creek Side out of Washington state, then beat the New Jersey-based Pirates Wrestling Club, 34-26.
In round three, the Waverly Wrestling Club beat East Rutherford N.J.-based Dark Horse Gold, 57-12, and improved to 4-0 with a 48-18 win over the New Jersey-based Mat Warriors Fire.
WWC dropped a 50-6 decision to Pool E champ Long-Island based Team Meloni.
Horseheads' Zach Schrage posted a 5-0 record on the day, including a pin WWC's loss to Team Meloni, while Waverly's Rhylee Stotler and Jaxson Porter, and Towanda's Gage Evans were each 4-1.
Tioga's Declan McKee and Zaine Campbell, and Waverly's Drayton DeKay were each 3-2, while Waverly's Avery Bowman won two matches, and Wwyalusing's Dan Fox and Waverly's Joey Mack won one match.
