JV BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY TOPS ELMIRA TO WIN SUMMER LEAGUE TITLE; ATHENS OUSTED IN SEMIFINALS (July 24, 2026)

WAVERLY — Waverly knocked off top-seeded Elmira to win the Waverly Summer Junior Varsity Basketball League championship here Thursday night, while Athens reached the semifinals.

Waverly, the third seed, opened with a 59-20 win over Candor in the quarterfinals, then knocked off second-seeded Athens, 48-39, in the semifinals.

In the finals, Waverly topped Elmira, 48-37.

Elmira advanced to the finals with a 41-21 win over eighth-seeded Edison in the quarterfinals, and a 39-36 win over fourth-seeded Horseheads in the semifinals.

Athens advanced to the semifinals with a 41-30 win over seventh-seeded Towanda in the quarterfinals.
