Valley Sports ReportATLANTIC CITY — The Waverly Wrestling Club, featuring wrestlers from Waverly, Tioga, Horseheads, and Wyalusing, went 2-1 Thursday to finish third in the Silver Bracket and 11th overall in the 46-team field here at the Summer National Elite Duals.
Waverly, the 12th seed entering the tournament was 4-1 on Monday, to earn entrance into the Silver Bracket.
Waverly beat Filipe Trained Wrestling Academy based in Belford, N.J., 42-16, in the quarterfinals.
Tioga's Declan McKee and Towanda's Gage Evans recorded falls in the win, while Horseheads' Zach Schrage notched an 8-6 decision.
Tioga's Zaine Campbell, Waverly's Joey Mack and Jaxson Porter, and Wyalusing's Daniel Fox all received forfeits.
In the semifinals, WWC dropped a 33-26 decision to Blue Wave Pacific, based in Elwood, N.Y.
Mack picked up a first-period fall for the Waverly Wrestling Club, while McKee scored a 12-4 major decision, and Evans registered a 10-2 major decision.
Campbell recorded a 9-2 decision, and Waverly's Drayton DeKay won a 9-3 decision, while Porter picked up a forfeit.
Tioga's Drayke Ulrich notched a fall for Blue Wave Pacific.
In the Silver Bracket third-place match, Waverly Wrestling Club rolled to a 47-8 win over South Regional Wrestling Club, based in Southern New Jersey.
Campbell, Evans and Waverly's Avery Bowman each registered first-period falls for WWC, while Schrage won a 22-6 technical fall and Fox earned a 16-0 technical fall.
McKee scored a 14-3 major decision, and Porter picked up a forfeit.
South Regional was penalized three team points for separate unsportsmanlike infractions.
