NTL VOLLEYBALL: SAYRE'S SANGREY SAYS REDSKINS 'MORE CONFIDENT' AS PREPARATION FOR 2026 BEGINS (17 PHOTOS) (August 19, 2026)
By TIM BIRNEYValley Sports ReportSAYRE — With a historic season that featured the program's first-ever District 4 title, and first-ever state playoff win in the rear-view mirror, Sayre volleyball coach Colby Sangrey said there's a different feel in the preseason as the team prepares for the 2026 season.
First of all, there are the physical differences.
"We have some more girls out this year," said Sangrey.
"And, we're here at the high school for our first week of practice," noted Sangrey in reference to last year's preseason being held at Snyder Elementary. "So, we're starting off where we'll be playing, and that's nice."
More importantly, Sangrey said there was a different vibe surrounding the team when preseason practice began Monday.
"There's a lot more confidence," he said. "I think they what they can do now, what they're capable of.
"They got to experience a lot of new things last year," added Sangrey. "They're coming in this year, and they're ready to do it again."
The fastest way to build numbers in a program is to win, and the Lady Redskins are a prime example.
"We're at 20 right now, up seven from last year," said Sangrey.
"The junior high team is at 15, and our recreation team has about 25," Sangrey added. "Our numbers are definitely coming up. I'm super happy about that."
Despite last year's success, Sangrey says there's much more work to be done.
"The focus this preseason is still just building our program," he said.
"Last year, obviously, we had a lot of success," noted Sangrey. "I'm really happy with what we were able to do, but it still takes a couple years to build the program, build depth, and to continue on to where we want to be."
Sayre will play in a multi-team pre-season scrimmage at Dallas Saturday.
