NTL BOYS GOLF: TOWANDA WINS; ATHENS FINISHES SECOND AGAIN AT SECOND LEAGUE MEET (21 PHOTOS) (August 19, 2026)

WYSOX — Towanda had three golfers break 80, including Graham Welles, who became the second Black Knight to shoot under par this week, and finished first again in the second NTL boys golf match of the season here Wednesday at the Towanda Country Club.

The Black Knights shot a four-player aggregate score of 313 to post a 7-0 record on the day, while Athens shot a 327 to finish 6-1 for the second time this week. Sayre finished eighth with 412 strokes, which was a 22-shot improvement from Monday.

Welles fired a one-under round of 70, while Boom Thompson, who shot a 67 Monday, and Harper Welles each shot 79, and Jason Wickwire carded an 85 for the Black Knights.

Junior Ty Owen led Athens with a round of 78, which was good for second on the day, while senior Eli Hicks shot an 80 to finish sixth, senior Lucas Greninger carded an 83, and senior Duncan Thetga added an 86.

Sophomore Jacob Saxon and senior Colin Congdon posted non-scoring rounds of 87 and 91.

Senior Shaine Strickland led Sayre with a round of 91, while freshman Kam Schrader shot a 101, senior Rommel Suba carded a 109, and senior Caleb Grover added a 112.

Junior James Leonard posted a non-scoring round of 119, and Gabe Wheeler tacked on a non-scoring round of 136.

NTL golfers return to action Wednesday at The Club at Shepard Hills.
