NTL BOYS GOLF: ATHENS' HICKS SHOOTS 70; WILDCATS FINISH SECOND TO TOWANDA AGAIN (24 PHOTOS) (August 26, 2026)

WAVERLY — Athens senior Eli Hicks shot a sub-par round to earn low-medal honors, but Towanda remained unbeaten with a four-stroke win over the Wildcats here Wednesday afternoon.

Hicks shot 1-under par on both the front nine — a 36 — and back nine — a 34 — for a 2-under par round of 70. He scored an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole, and birdies on the par-5 eighth and 12th holes, as well as the par-4 13th and 18th holes.

Towanda posted a 7-0 record on the day to improve to 21-0 with a four-man aggregate score of 311, while Athens carded a 315, Wellsboro had a 340, and North Penn-Mansfield shot a 345. Sayre finished eighth with a 400.

Athens junior Ty Owen carded a 78 to finish fourth on the day, and senior Duncan Thetga carded an 82 to finish seventh in the individual standings.

Sophomore Jacob Saxon and senior Lucas Greninger each shot rounds of 85.

Senior Shaine Strickland led Sayre with a round of 89, and freshman Kam Schrader carded a 91 — career-best golfers for both rounds.

Senior Caleb Grover had a 105 for the Redskins, and senior Rommel Suba added a 115.

Sophomore Blake Zingeser and junior James Leonard added non-scoring rounds of 119 and 121.

NTL golfers return to action Sept. 8.
