STAC BOYS GOLF: WALTER , BENNETT LEAD WAVERLY TO WIN OVER ONEONTA (August 27, 2026)

WAVERLY — Junior Griff Walter and 8th-grader Silas Bennett led five Waverly golfers that shot 50 or better in a 228-239 win over Oneonta here Thursday in STAC Boys golf action at The Club at Shepard Hills.

"I thought today was another step in the right direction for us," said Waverly coach Marc Felt. "We were six shots better as a team than yesterday, and it was great to see guys like Daniel Brady and Maddex (Presher) bounce back with much better rounds. 

"Griff (Walter) was steady again and earned medalist, and Silas (Bennett) continues to impress," added Felt.

Walter carded an eagle on the par-5, fifth hole, his second eagle in as many days, to lead the Wolverines with a round of 40, which also learned low-medal honors on the day.

Bennett shot a 43, while senior Daniel Brody carded a 47, and senior Daniel Fischer added a 48, including birdies on the par-4 first hole, and the par-5 fifth hole.

Sophomore Maddex Presher tacked on a 50 for the Wolverines, and sophomore Trevor Allen posted a non-scoring round of 58.

The Wolverines improve to 2-0 after a season-opening win over Owego Wednesday.

"Starting the season with two wins is great, but I still think we have a lot of room to improve," said Felt. "We have a busy week coming up with four matches, starting Monday with the DiNunzio Kickoff Tournament at En-Joie, so it’ll be a good test for us."
