THE VALLEY — It's another full slate of action this week, despite a long weekend in observance of Labor Day, with Tioga volleyball making its season debut, and the Waverly girls swim team hosting its annual Wolverine Invite among the highlights.

There are 35 events on the docket this week, including 10 on Tuesday, eight on Thursday, and seven on Friday.

The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

MONDAY (0)

TUESDAY (10)
•  The Athens boys play their home soccer opener against Troy.

•  Tioga field hockey hosts Sidney.

•  Tioga cross country opens its season at Trumansburg.  

•  The Waverly boys host Johnson City on the pitch under the lights at Memorial Stadium.

•  The Waverly girls tennis team hosts Johnson City.

WEDNESDAY (5)
•  The Athens girls host Williamson on the pitch at Alumni Stadium..

•  Tioga volleyball opens its season at Watkins Glen.

•  The Tioga boys host Newfield in an IAC Small School soccer clash under the lights at Haggerty Field.

THURSDAY (8)
•  Waverly volleyball hosts Oneonta.

•  Athens volleyball hosts Towanda in an NTL Large School clash.

•  Waverly hosts Seton Catholic in a STAC Central girls soccer rivalry game under the lights at Memorial Stadium.

•  The Tioga girls host Newfield in an IAC Small School soccer match.

•  Waverly hosts Windsor in a boys golf match on the links at The Club at Shepard Hills.

FRIDAY (7)
•  Athens plays its home opener on the gridiron, hosting Cowanesque Valley at Alumni Stadium.

•  Waverly is on the road in a non-divisional football game against Maine-Endwell.

•  Sayre hosts Muncy in an NTL Small School clash on the gridiron at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

•  Tioga plays its home volleyball opener against Dryden.

•  Waverly hosts Chenango Valley in a girls tennis match.

SATURDAY (5)
•  Tioga football is on the road at Chenango Forks.

•  Tioga and Waverly are in action at the Corning Volleyball Tournament.

•  Waverly hosts the Wolverine Girls Swimming Invite.
