NTL VOLLEYBALL: ATHENS HOLDS OFF TOWANDA IN EPIC FIVE-SET WIN (September 10, 2026)

ATHENS — After building a 2-0 lead, Athens needed to re-group to pull out the decisive fifth game in an epic 3-2 win over Towanda here Thursday night in NTL Large School volleyball action.

The Wildcats pulled out wins of 25-21 and 25-23 in the first two sets, but the Black Knights bounced back with wins of 25-15 and 25-22 to even things up.

Athens won fifth set, 15-10.

"What a battle tonight," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "(Towanda) coach Cassie (Smith) and I always know it's going to be one heck of a match and tonight did not disappoint. Cassie and Tori (Bristol) have done an incredible job with the Towanda team and it's awesome for Towanda, however, it sure makes for some crazy matches.

"Taking the first two sets, we seemed to have lost our fire a bit in the third and fourth," noted Darrow.  "Moving the players around in the front row and Evelyn Roy slamming a few hits really gave the girls a spark; that was the shift we needed to find a way to get some energy in the fifth set.  

"We had movement across the board, it is very exciting," added Darrow. "Massive defense and three players with double-digit kills."

Junior Hannah Parrish had 13 points, including three aces, 25 digs, and four kills to lead Athens, while sophomore Kayla Forbes had 11 points (two aces), 32 digs, and three assists, and Meg Wiles had six points (two aces), 49 setter assists, and 14 digs.

Ellie Mosher had six points (two aces), 13 kills and 17 digs in the win, while Lainey Vosburgh had nine points (three aces), 23 digs, and two kills, and junior Kendall Galasso had four points, four digs, and 12 kills.

Freshman Evelyn Roy registered 14 kills, one block, and three digs, and freshman Emi McQuay added eight kills and two digs.
