BINGHAMTON — Seton Catholic jumped out to a big lead early and rolled to a 9-0 win over Waverly here Friday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action.

Jake Dalla-Verde led the Saints with four goals, and Gregorio Morales netted a hat trick. Both scored two goals in first half as Seton Catholic built a 5-0 lead.

"We were missing a key piece of our defense that lead to some irregular errors on defense," said Waverly coach Jon Rankin.

"Despite the score line, we were able to generate more offense than we expected and had a few solid chances on goal," he noted. "We were more often than not, one pass away from having chance to put one on the board. 

"I thought our underclassmen really made a difference on the field and played well," said Rankin. "We won more areal battles which prevented some more dangerous opportunities. 

"Unfortunately, we got caught out of position early on and in key moments that could’ve been more routine saves and moments for our backline and goal keeper," added Rankin. "When playing a team like Seton, little mistakes have massive consequences and we struggled to adapt to that tonight."

Sophomore James Cole recorded eight saves in net for the Wolverines.

Waverly, now 0-3, returns to action Monday when it hosts Oneonta on the high school field.
