NTL FOOTBALL: SAYRE FALLS TO MUNCY, 56-0 (24 PHOTOS) (September 11, 2026)

SAYRE — Sayre played solid football for the better part of two quarters, and then the bottom fell out in a 56-0 loss to Muncy here Friday night in NTL Small School Division action at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

First-year Sayre coach Guy Kapichok attribute much of Sayre's woes to a lack of bodies and experience.

"We had a good game plan, and we knew what they were going to do," he said. "We stopped them early, and we moved the ball a little bit.

"It's just attrition every week," noted Kapichok. "We run out of bodies and then ... I mean we lost Owen Durand tonight on the opening kickoff, so then automatically we had to scramble, scramble, scramble. 

"We don't have the backups, so attrition gets us," added Kapichok. "But as far as the kids preparing, the kids knowing what to do and us being able to stop the opponent, the last three weeks, we've put our head in there and stared them down for a while."

The Redskins picked up a first down on their first possession of the game on a 13-yard pass from senior QB Declan Barry to senior Quin Chandler, but were forced to punt four plays later.

The Sayre defense, in turn, forced a three-and-out punt and the offense took over at its 28.

An 11-yard completion from Barry to junior Brayden Vorhis gave the Redskins another first down, but Barry was picked off two plays later at the Redskin 45.

The Indians capitalized quickly on a 45-yard TD run by Laymen Harris on the first play. Nolan Trostle's PAT kick made it 7-0 with 5:38 remaining in the first quarter.

Senior Hudson Malanoski picked up a first down for the Redskins with a 9-yard run, but the Redskins were again forced to punt four plays later.

Muncy put together a 10-play drive that started with a 19-yard pass from Noah Weikle to Kyle Feigles, and featured a 23-yard run by Jaxson Thomas. Harris capped the drive with a 5-yard TD run to make it 13-0 with 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Redskins turned the ball over on downs at their 45 on the first play of the second quarter on the ensuing possession.

Muncy quickly moved the ball in the Sayre red zone, but Redskin junior Carson Dietz pounced on a loose ball on the 15 to end the threat.

After another three-and-out, Muncy took over at the Sayre 32 following a 22-yard punt and quickly added to its lead with a three-play drive, capped by Harris' 9-yard TD run. Landon Hartzel's PAT kick made it 20-0 with 8:04 remaining in the half.

Sayre moved the ball into Muncy territory on its next possession, thanks to a personal foul call against the Indians, then Barry's pass intended for Chandler bounced off his hands and into the hands of junior Brayden Northrup for a 10-yard gain to the Indian 38.

Three plays later, Muncy's Nathan Rogers stepped in front of a Barry pass at the Indians' 16.

Ten plays later, Weikle rolled out and hit Drew Ryder in the end zone for a 2-yard TD pass with 2:22 remaining in the half to make it 27-0.

The play featured a 33-yard pass from Weikle to Rogers, and a 31-yard run by Weikle on fourth-and-1.

Sayre's ensuing possession ended after three plays, and a short punt gave Muncy the ball at midfield.

Two plays later, Weikle and Rogers hooked up on a 50-yard TD pass with 20 seconds remaining in the half. The same duo connected on the two-point conversion to make it 35-0, ensuring a "mercy rule" running clock in the second half.

Muncy's late scoring sure was aided by a pair of Sayre drops that cut their possessions short. The Redskins had six clear drops in the contest.

"We worked on it all week," said Kapichok. "We have the juggs machine out, shooting the balls, hitting (our receivers) with the bags, while they're catching the balls.

"It's just in the game, I think the stress of it gets to them," he added. "And really, everything we do in practice is on air. We just don't have the bodies to go live."

Muncy scored on its first possession of the second half on a 23-yard run by Weikle, and added two TDs later in the contest.

Malanoski led Sayre's ground game with 52 yards on 20 carries, while Barry completed 5 of 21 passes for 52 yards, and was picked off three times.

Muncy piled up 507 yards in total offense, including 360 rushing yards in a balanced ground game. Harris led the Indian rushing attack with 78 yards and three TDs on six carries.

Kapichok said he see improvements from his Redskins, who are now 0-3.

"We're learning the day by day, and I'm proud of the kids," he said. "I wouldn't trade them."

Sayre returns to action Friday at North Penn-Mansfield.
