ATHENS' MORALES WINS JUNIOR HIGH BOYS RACE; GIRLS FINISH SECOND IN TEAM CHASE

ONEONTA — Senior Jacob Shores posted a top-20 finish to lead Athens' efforts here Saturday morning at the Dave Forbes Cross Country Invitational.

Shores finished 19th in a time of 17:58.2, while senior Corbin Smith was 62nd in 20:01.5, sophomore Micah Simwale was 109th in 22:56.9, and senior Kamden Knapp was 135th in 31:25.8.

Vestal won the team title with 49 points. Athens did not field a complete team.

GIRLS
Freshman Paisley Smith was 50th in a time of 24:56.8 to lead the Lady Wildcat contingent at the Forbes Invite.

Sophomore Adaline Burnett was 79th in 26:45.5, while sophomore Katyayini Kinthala was 92nd in 28:31.1, junior Tatyana Nasser was 97th in 28:48.5, and senior Haylie Horton was 125th in 32:12.0

Athens finished 13th in the 15-team field with 323 placement points. Vestal won the team title with 62 points, while Queensbury was second with 92 and Owego Free Academy was third with 128 points.

JUNIOR HIGH
Boys
Rowan Morales won the boys modified race in a time of 7:29.3, while Tyler Horton was seventh in 8:26.3, and Isaac Janiszeski was 20th in 9:06.4.

Earlier in the week, Morales (9:39) and Horton (10:27) finished 1-2 in a three-team meet at North Penn-Mansfield, while Sawyer Nason was fourth in 10:35.

Girls
Evelyn Owen placed third in the girls modified race in a time of 9:13.3, while Lydia Swingle was 10th in 9:40.6, and Penelope Metcalf was 11th in 9:43.7.

Emma Madison was 17th for the junior Wildcats in a time of 10:08.9, while Celia Bennett was 25th in 10:38.6, Cecelia Shangraw was 29th in 10:54.1, and Scarlett Eccker was 43rd in 12:33.4.

Athens finished second in the team standings with 51 placement points. Athens won the team title with 40 points, and Newark Valley was third with 80 points.

Earlier in the week, Owen finished sixth in a three-team (co-ed) meet at North Penn-Mansfield in a time of 11:39, while Metcalf was eighth in 11:46, and Madison (12:21) and Swingle (12:39) were 10th and 11th, respectively.

Shangraw ((14:29) and Bennett (14:29) were 15th and 16th, respectively, and Eccker (15:06) was 19th.
