WAVERLY TO HOST 'SALUTE TO SERVICE TAILGATE' PRIOR TO FRIDAY'S GAME (September 16, 2026)

WAVERLY – The Waverly Central School District, Owego-Apalachin School District and the Tioga County Veterans Service Agency are teaming up for a special event this weekend.

The "Salute to Service Tailgate" will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday before the Waverly Wolverines host the Owego River Hawks in a football game at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

There will be food and drinks available at the tailgate, which will be held at 161 Elm Street at Memorial Stadium. Each Veteran will also receive up to two tickets to the game.

A special recognition of all Veterans and Service Members will also be held at halftime of the football game.

"The Waverly Central School District is proud to co-host the 1st Annual Tioga County Veterans Tailgate," said Waverly Superintendent Dr. Eric Knolles.  "Waverly's veterans are a major part of who we are and where we come from. 

"From Memorial Stadium and our veterans monument to our Hometown Heroes display in our school, we are honored by the men and women who have put on the uniform to serve our country," added Knolles. "This is an important weekend for us to say thank you, and we are truly grateful for their service and sacrifice."
