FROM THE PRESS BOX: WEEK 4 PICKS — COULD ALL FOUR VALLEY TEAMS FIND THE WIN COLUMN? (September 18, 2026)

Week 4 of the high school football season is upon us, and all four Valley teams have a legitimate shot to bring home wins.

Waverly is at home against Owego, and Tioga is at home against Sidney, while Athens is the road against a tough South Williamsport team, and Sayre is at North Penn-Mansfield in a battle of winless teams.

Last week was a very good one for the VSR's Pigskin Prognosticators. The Mick was 12-0, while Little Red and Madden & Summerall were 11-1, and Country Bob and I were 10-2

On the season, The Mick is 28-4, Little Red is 27-5, I am 26-6, and Country Bob and Madden & Summerall are 24-8.

Without further ado, let's see what VSR's Pigskin Prognosticators foresee in Week 2:

Owego (0-2) at Waverly (1-1): The Wolverines are coming off a 35-13 loss to powerhouse Maine-Endwell, while the River Hawks dropped a 31-28 thriller to Johnson City.

Prediction: It would be easy to think Waverly will roll in this game, but under-estimating Patton Taylor and the coaching staff at Owego comes at a cost. That said, Waverly has a lot of weapons. ... WAVERLY 27, OWEGO 14.
The Mick:
Waverly 34, Owego 13; Country Bob: Waverly 35, Owego 6; Little Red: Waverly 28, Owego 7; Madden & Summerall: Waverly 28, Owego 12.

Athens (2-1) at South Williamsport (2-1): The Wildcats are coming off a 49-13 win over Cowanesque Valley, while the Mounties dropped a 12-6 decision to Montgomery.

Prediction: Athens has a lot of weapons, but South Williamsport has allowed just 12 points in three games, albeit the two shutout wins being against winless Sayre and NP-Mansfield. ... ATHENS 34, SOUTH 13.
The Mick:
Athens 28, South 21; Country Bob: Athens 28, South 20; Little Red: Athens 35, South 20; Madden & Summerall: South 28, Athens 21.

Sayre (0-3) at North Penn-Mansfield (0-3): The Redskins are coming off a 56-0 loss to Muncy, while the Tigers dropped a 41-27 decision at Northwest Area.

Prediction: North Penn has shown more signs of life in its offense than Sayre this season, averaging nearly 14 points per game to Sayre's zero points offensively. ... NP-MANSFIELD 34, SAYRE 16.
The Mick:
NP-M 28, Sayre 0; Country Bob: NP-M 34, Sayre 21; Little Red: NP-M 28, Sayre 0; Madden & Summerall: NP-M 41, Sayre 6.

Sidney (0-2) at Tioga (0-2): The Tigers are coming off a 40-0 loss to defending state runner-up Chenango Forks, while the Sabers dropped a 43-8 decision at home to Norwich.

Prediction: Tioga has faced two of the top Small School teams in the state, while Sidney has been outscored by an average of 54.5 to 7 in its two losses. ... Tioga is currently fighting the flu bug, but should have more than enough to get in to the win column for the first time in 2026. ... TIOGA 44, SIDNEY 6.
The Mick:
Tioga 27, Sidney 8; Country Bob: Tioga 21, Sidney 6; Little Red: Tioga 34, Sidney 14; Madden & Summerall: Tioga 23, Sidney 8.

Montgomery (3-0) at Troy (2-1): The Red Raiders are coming off a 12-6 win over South Williamsport, while the Trojans topped Towanda, 23-7.

Prediction: The Trojans have played a more difficult schedule, and are playing at home. ... TROY 27, MONTGOMERY 17.
The Mick:
Troy 20, Montgomery 13;  Country Bob: Troy 21, Montgomery 6; Little Red: Troy 35, Montgomery 14; Madden & Summerall: Troy 28, Montgomery 27.

Towanda (2-1) at Muncy (2-1):
The Black Knights are coming off a 23-7 loss to Troy, while the Indians rolled to a 56-0 win over Sayre.

Prediction: Towanda has been a pleasant surprise in the early-going this season, while Muncy is still solid, but not quite what is has been the last several years. ... TOWANDA 25, MUNCY 20.
The Mick:
Towanda 16, Muncy 13; Country Bob: Muncy 27, Towanda 13; Little Red: Muncy 27, Towanda 13; Madden & Summerall: Muncy 28, Towanda 14.

Wyalusing (0-3) at Cowanesque Valley (0-3): The Rams are coming off a 41-0 loss to Canton, while the Indians lost 49-13 at Athens.

Prediction: Wyalusing has not scored a point this season, while Cowanesque Valley was competitive in losses to Canton and Wellsboro. ... COWANESQUE VALLEY 26, WYALUSING 12.
The Mick:
CV 32, Wyalusing 6; Country Bob: CV 34, Wyalusing 6; Little Red: CV 28, Wyalusing 20; Madden & Summerall: CV 21, Wyalusing 6.

Wellsboro (1-2) at Canton (2-1): The Hornets are coming off a 35-7 loss to Loyalsock, while the Warriors blanked Wyalusing, 41-0.

Prediction: Canton and Wellsboro both enjoyed 13-point wins over Cowanesque Valley earlier this season. Wellsboro appears a bit more athletic and deeper, but Miller A. Moyer Field is a tough place to play. ... WELLSBORO 22, CANTON 18.
The Mick:
Wellsboro 28, Canton 24; Country Bob: Canton 35-13; Little Red: Canton 27, Wellsboro 14; Madden & Summerall: Wellsboro 26, Canton 12.

SVEC (0-2) at Greene-Oxford (0-2): The Eagles dropped a 55-0 decision to Delhi, while the Trojans dropped a 72-12 decision at Groton.

Prediction: SVEC hasn't scored a point this season in its two losses, while Greene-Oxford's 18 points came against second-team defenses. This game is anyone's guess. ... SVEC 18, Greene-Oxford 13.
The Mick:
Greene 7, SVEC 6;   Country Bob: Greene 18, SVEC 6; Little Red: SVEC 27, Greene 13; Madden & Summerall: Greene 12, SVEC 6.

Newark Valley (1-1) at Walton (0-2):
The Cardinals topped Whitney Point, 28-6, while the Warriors dropped a 48-8 decision to Windsor.

Prediction: Walton has some talent, but is low in numbers, while Newark Valley is always a tough out, and always well-coached. ... NEWARK VALLEY 20, WALTON 16.
The Mick:
NV 20, Walton 12; Country Bob: NV 27, Walton 6;
Little Red: Walton 21, NV 6; Madden & Summerall: NV 21, Walton 14.
