STAC GIRLS SOCCER: TWEDT OT GAME-WINNER LIFTS WAVERLY TO 2-1 WIN OVER SUS. VALLEY (September 22, 2026)

CONKLIN, N.Y. — Junior Kaylin Twedt scored both of Waverly's goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Wolverines to a 2-1 win over Susquehanna Valley here Tuesday night in STAC girls soccer action.

"Sus. Valley was a stronger force this year," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "They put good pressure on us throughout the game and beat us to a lot of balls.

"Going into the second half, we had to make some changes to get down the field," she noted. "S.V.'s goalie was playing high, but our passes to our forwards were incredibly difficult to handle. 

"Moving Kaylin (Twedt) up made all the difference," added Hogan. "With her ability to run anything down, her speed was the biggest asset. I know she has been itching to get back up top, so we made the move and she proved to us all that we need her up there."

Hogan sang the kudos of her defense after the win.

"I also cannot sing the praises of our defenders enough," said Hogan. "With Makenzie (Olmsted) shutting down their star forward in the first half, then Sophia (Dorsey) had to contend with her the entire second half.  

"Hannah (Carpenter) dealt well with them trying to send forwards down the left side of their field.  

"Maci (Wheeler) had free reign to take all those distance shots and she went with it," added Hogan. "Maci and Makenzie's defensive instincts are second to none."

Twedt, off an assist from junior Lily Schoonover, scored a little more than three minutes into the game, and held a 1-0 lead until SV's Lanai James scored with 1:28 remaining in the contest.

Twedt, off a feed from senior Ryleigh Judson, scored the game-winner with 6:48 remaining in the first overtime period.

Waverly had a 15-11 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Taylin Gonzalez recorded 10 saves in net for the Wolverines.

Waverly, now 5-2, hosts Chenango Forks Thursday night.
