NTL BOYS GOLF: HICKS LEADS ATHENS TO A PAIR OF WINS; SAYRE TOPS CANTON (September 23, 2026)

MANSFIELD — Senior Eli Hicks shot his third consecutive sub-par round to lead Athens to a pair of wins, and Sayre notched a win over Canton here Wednesday afternoon in the final regular-season match of the NTL golf season.

Athens fired a four-player aggregate score of 162, while Sayre shot a 184, and Canton carded a 187.

Hicks fired a 1-under par round of 35 at the Corey Creek Golf Course, while senior Duncan Thetga shot a 41, and junior Ty Owen shot a 42.

Sophomore Jacob Saxon and senior Colin Congdon shot matching rounds of 44, and senior Lucas Grenninger tacked on a non-scoring round of 50.

Senior Rommel Suba led Sayre with a career-best 44, while senior Shaine Strickland fired a 45, and freshman Kam Schrader shot a 45.

Sophomore Gabe Wheeler carded a 49 for the Redskins, and sophomore Blake Zingeser and Caleb Grover tacked on non-scoring rounds of 50 and 55, respectively. 

Athens and Sayre return to action Thursday at Corey Creek in the NTL Championships.
