NTL GIRLS SOCCER: PATTON-WARING CONNECTION LIFTS ATHENS TO 2-1 OVERTIME WIN OVER LIVERPOOL (24 PHOTOS) (September 26, 2026)

LIVERPOOL — Senior Delanie Patton set up freshman Everleigh Waring for the game-winner in the second overtime period of Athens' 2-1 win over Liverpool here Saturday afternoon in non-league girls soccer action.

"This was a good win," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "It's our first time beating a Syracuse-area team in my years here. 

"The girls worked hard all over the field," he noted. "We prepared them on the way up with a game plan we thought would work, and they all executed to the tee."

Junior Allie Kemp scored off a nicely-placed corner kick by senior Kaitlyn Leonard, collecting a loose ball in the box and firing it into the right side of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead it would carry into the halftime intermission.

The Warriors tied the game on a free kick from 20 yards out in the second half.

In the second overtime, Patton dribbled to the end line on the right side of the box, made a hard left, dribbled into the box, and centered the ball to Waring, who put the ball in the net at 4:32 remaining to give Athens the "golden-goal win."

Liverpool had a 26-15 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Athens sophomore Annika Lezak recorded 13 saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 5-2-1, returns to action Tuesday when it hots Troy.
