IAC GIRLS SOCCER: WATKINS GLEN ROLLS TO 9-3 WIN OVER SHORT-HANDED TIOGA (September 29, 2026)

WATKINS GLEN — Watkins Glen scored four goals — all by Michaela Wheaton — in the first 23 minutes of the game, and rolled to a 9-3 win over short-handed Tioga here Monday night

"It was a very rough and unexpected outing," said Tioga coach Jim Walsh. "We only had 10 players suited up — with four injured — against a loaded Watkins Glen team of 21 players including eight seniors.

"They've lost a few games this year, and we went into the game thinking they're not as strong as they normally are, but that was not the case at all," noted Walsh. "They completely out-hustled and out-maneuvered us, especially on the offensive end of the field, which surprised us because our defense has been a strong point for us all season.  

"Offensively, we got a lot of shots off - led by star midfielder Grace Howey - many of which hit the upper goal post, excellent powerful shots just missing," added Walsh. "Teammates Natalie Kemp and Mary Van Dusen joined Grace in playing exceptionally well tonight on our offensive attack."

Grace Howey scored two goals for Tioga, and Natalie Kemp scored one.

For the Lake Hawks, Amelie Woods had two goals while Natalie VanSkiver, Aleah Ventra and Catherine Caslin had one apiece. VanSkiver also registered three assists, while Wheaton and Woods had two each.

Watkins Glen had a 17-15 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Marcy Moniz recorded 15 saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga, now 4-4, returns to action Friday at Newfield.
