CROSS-COUNTRY: WAVERLY'S HINE, ATHENS' VOUGH PACE VALLEY CONTINGENT WITH TOP-25 FINISHES AT PRESTIGIOUS McQUAID INVITATIONAL (October 3, 2026)
JUNIOR HIGH: ATHENS' MORALES PLACES THIRD IN BOYS RACE; ATHENS GIRLS PLACE FOURTH IN TEAM CHASE
Valley Sports ReportROCHESTER — Waverly senior Chase Hine and Athens junior Alissa Vough both posted top-25 finishes here Saturday at the prestigious McQuaid Invitational, while Athens' Rowan Morales placed third in his junior high race, and the Athens girls placed fourth in the junior high team standings.
There was a field of 370 runners in the Small Schools varsity boys race, and 295 in the varsity girls race on the 3-mile course at Genesee Valley Park.
There were 198 runners in the Athens' junior high girls race, and 256 in Waverly'on the 1.6-mile junior high course.
Waverly's junior high boys race had a field of 352 runners, and Athens' had 255.
BOYSThe Wolverines finished 18th with 589 placement points and the Wildcats were 31st with 767 points in Race 6, which saw Northeast Bradford (191 points) place third, Troy (409) ninth, and North Penn-Mansfield (420) 10th. Notre Dame of Easton, Pa. Won the team title with 153 points, and Ausable Valley was second with 191 points.
Senior Chase Hine paced the Wolverines with a 23rd-place finish in a time of 6:49.4, while junior Hayden Montanye was 72nd in 17:44.7, junior Drayton DeKay was 95th in 18:06.3.
Sophomore Colten Santalucia was 213th for Waverly in 19:49.9, and junior Garret Akins was 214th in 19:50.1.
Senior Jacob Shores led Athens with a 34th-place finish in a time of 17:12.7, while senior Matt Rossettie was 47th in 17:21.7, and senior Corbin Smith was 125th in 18:38.6.
Sophomore Micah Simwale was 294th in 21:19.7, while freshman Austin Nason was 339th in 22:33.3, and senior Graham Wanck, who is coming back from injury, was 344th in 22:46.7.
GIRLSAthens finished 29th in Race 7 with 691 placement points, while Northeast Bradford was eighth with 330 points, North Penn-Mansfield was 17th with 468 points, and Troy was 23rd with 572 points.
Athens junior Alissa Vough was the top Valley finisher, placing 25th in 19:54.0, while sophomore Stella Unger was 169th in 23:46.3, and sophomore Adaline Burnett was 201st in 24:44.9.
Junior Tatyana Nasser was 246th in 26:02.4, and senior Haylie Horton was 28:03.6.
Junior Miah Correll was Waverly's top finisher, placing 146th in 23:04.6, while senior Taylor Sinsabaugh was 218th in 25:05.7.
JUNIOR HIGH
GirlsEvelyn Owen and Lydia Swingle each had top-20 finishes to lead Athens to a fourth-place finish in the junior high Small School Division race 8.
Owen placed seventh in a time of 10:19.3 on the 1.6-mile course, and Swingle clocked in at 10:42.4.
Penelope Metcalf was 26th for the Wildcats in 10:59.3, while Celia Bennett was 54th in 11:44.9, and Emma Madison was 77th in 12:08.1.
Lilia Rossettie was 96th in 12:36.3, while Cecilia Shangraw was 100th in 12:39.1, and Scarlett Eccker was 146th in 13:58.4.
Waverly finished 11th in Race 1, with Avery Hine placing 50th 11:22.1 to lead the way for the Wolverines.
Braelynn Smith finished 93rd for Waverly in 12:16.6, while Pepper Mosier (12:27.8) and Shawna Granger (12:29.6) finished 103 and 104th, respectively, Lilyonna McConnell was 188th in 14:25.6. and Isabella Palanza was 219th in 15:33.1.
BoysMorales finished third in a time 8:54.9 in Race 10, while Sawyer Nason was 25th in 9:50.7, Tyler Horton was 42nd in 10:06.6, and Isaac Janiszewski was 49th in 10:11.1.
Waverly placed 29th in the team standings in Race 2.
Joseph Dorsey finished 182nd in 11:56.5 to pace Waverly, while Parker Bruno was 203rd in 12:11.4, Colton Fassett was 261st in 13:07.8, Wyatt Sinsabaugh was 280th in 13:29.1, Skyler Decker was 288th in 13:41.4, and Marshall Williamson was 316th in 14:37.3.
