NTL VOLLEYBALL: ATHENS POSTS HARD-FOUGHT SWEEP OF TROY (October 6, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
TROY — Athens came out on the winning end against Troy in of one of the closest sweeps you'll ever hear Tuesday night in NTL Large School volleyball action.

The Wildcats won by scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 26-24.

"Troy definitely fought hard in the three sets and had some really nice hits tonight," said Athens coach Heather Darrow.

"I was very impressed with our entire squad tonight," she noted. "From the bench, to behind the bench, everyone was together and you could really feel the support and Wildcat pride coming from everyone.

"The bench and the fans were awesome," added Darrow. "We've got some more tough games coming up in the next two weeks. Troy definitely helped us prepare, they were intense."

Senior Meg Wiles led Athens with six service points, 33 setter assists, and four digs, while junior Ellie Mosher had four points (two aces), 17 kills, one block, and six digs, and senior Hannah Parrish had six points, seven digs, three kills and two blocks.

Freshman Evelyn Roy registered five points (two aces), 10 kills and one block, while junior Lainey Vosburgh had four points and 14 digs, junior Kendall Galasso added two points (two aces), four kills and three digs, and freshman Emi McQuay chipped in with two points (two aces), three kills, one block, and three digs.

"Each girl contributed big time tonight," said Darrow. "Lainey Vosburgh stepped in as libero and did an exceptional job reading and in serve-receive. I know she was so fired up for the opportunity and wow did she perform.

"Meg Wiles did an amazing job getting to target and running and offense while also contributing with some big-time digs. She really used her head tonight.

"Ellie Mosher had so many different shots tonight," said Darrow. "I've moved her around a few times into different spots and roles and she is always open to it all. Tonight, she got to go back to her original outside and she owned it.

"Hannah Parrish blocked, hit, served and dug. I was so impressed with how she played," noted Darrow. "Emi McQuay had some great blocks along with running a quick offense. She is getting stronger and stronger every game.

"Kendall Gallasso is really connecting with Meg (Wiles) and her blocks are coming along, and to get an ace game-point pressure situation is amazing.

"Emma Mallore had some great front-row plays and big blocks tonight," said Darrow. "It's not easy coming off the bench and she always contributes.

"Evelyn Roy played all the way around and her ability to reach and get that ball is fun to watch," noted Darrow. "She had a great passing game tonight and she left it all out there.

"We were missing libero Kayla Forbes tonight due to injury," added Darrow. "I may be the most proud of her as she stepped into a role on the bench talking strategy to players, calling shots, being all in in a different way.  It's not an easy position to be in and she kept the team in it."

Athens, now 8-3, returns to action Wednesday at Dallas.
