HS CROSS COUNTRY: WANCK, VOUGH SET THE PACE FOR ATHENS AT BOB GREENE/NEWARK VALLEY INVITATIONAL (October 9, 2026)

NEWARK VALLEY — Graham Wanck and Alissa Vough set the pace for the Athens cross country team at the Bob Greene / Newark Valley Invitational here Friday. Wanck placed fourth out of 119 runners with a time of 17:25.1 while Vough was seventh out of 90 female competitors, recording a time of 20:41.7.
In the boys race, the Wildcats’ Matt Rossettie took 16th in 18:11 in a tight finish which saw teammate Jacob Shores place 12th in 8:12.8. Micah Simwale was 87th with a time of 22:17 and Gabriel Sensenig claimed 96th in 22:40.4.
Athens’ non-scoring runners included 108 93 403 Austin Nason (108th, 24:19.1), Nicholas Lesser (111th, 26:30.9) and Kamden Knapp (113th, 26:53.4).
The Wildcats were 8th in the team challenge with 198 points. Towanda won the team title with 59 points, topping Abington Heights’ 67.
For the girls, Stella Unger was 39th with a time of 24:10.5, Paisley Smith claimed 49th in 24:42.9, Adaline Burnett finished 71st in 26:54.9 and Tatyana Nasser took 73rd with a 27:14.1
Non-scorers for the Wildcats were Katyayini Kinthala (75th, 27:31.9) and Haylie Horton (83rd, 29:27.8).
Athens took seventh out of 11 scoring teams with 194 points. Abington Heights took first with 37 points and Towanda was the runner-up with 51.
The Wildcats compete in the NTL Coaches Invitational on Oct. 17.
