NTL VOLLEYBALL: ATHENS WINS FIRST SETL FALLS 3-1 TO NP-L (October 13, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportLIBERTY — Athens started fast, but North Penn-Liberty regrouped and won a 3-1 decision here Tuesday night in NTL Large School volleyball action.
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-18, but the Mounties answered with wins of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-19.
"We came out strong and knew it was going to be a battle," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "Our outsides were strong tonight, Ellie (Mosher) and Evelyn (Roy) hit it great.
"Kayla Forbes, Hannah Parrish , Lainey Vosburgh and Ellie Mosher all passed really well in serve-receive — double-digit digs for all of them, I believe.
Jonica Walter's came off the bench and ended up serving. The girl had two incredible digs that really sparked a fire in the girls — keeping that fire the whole time would be something to see," noted Darrow.
"NP-L blocked our middles, but the girls kept swinging away," said Darrow. "Emi McQuay and Kendall Gallasso were getting in there trying to make something work, and Emma Mallore did a great job creating some sparks for the team in second and third sets. NP-L just does not let a ball drop without three touches on it.
"We missed more serves than normal," continued Darrow. "We are an aggressive serving team so it's gonna happen some games. I also love how we are running an offense and making aggressive plays each rally. The goal is to be more aggressive and not to always play it so safe, but with that comes errors sometimes.
"We just need to fine tune a few things for Towanda," added Darrow.
Senior Meg Wiles led Athens with 30 setter assists, 15 digs, and eight service points, including three aces.
Meg Wiles had 30 assists tonight and I don't even know how many attempts," said Darrow. "She's running everywhere and creating opportunities."
Junior Ellie Mosher had 14 kills, 15 digs, and six service points (two aces), while senior Hannah Forbes had 10 points, including a team-high four aces, 14 digs, five kills, and one block, and freshman Evelyn Roy registered 15 kills, three blocks, 10 digs, and four points.
Sophomore Kayla Forbes recorded 13 digs, three points and three assists, while sophomore Emi McQuay had five points, four digs, and two kills, junior Kendall Galasso added four digs and three kills, and sophomore Jonica Walter chipped in with two points and two digs.
Athens, now 8-4, returns to action Thursday at Towanda.
