PIAA GIRLS GOLF: ATHENS FALLS SHORT IN SUB-REGIONAL LOSS TO TUNKHANNOCK (October 13, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
EXETER, Pa. — District 4 champions Athens came up short in a PIAA, Class AA Girls Golf Sub-Regional match-up dropping a 269-280 decision to District 2 champion Tunkhannock here Tuesday after at Fox Hill Country Club.

"I am very proud of how the girls played at the Fox Hill Country Club," said Athens coach Mason Lyon. "To think back to our first round this season, the goal was to complete the round ... and here they are competing for a chance to advance to States. It's really something to be proud of.

"The Fox Hill Country Club is a beautiful golf course, but unfamiliar to the girls," noted Lyon. "The long layout and quick greens were something the girls had to adjust to. We talked about playing smart golf and the girls did a great job of keeping the ball safe. Zero penalties for the day.

"At the end of the day, it was great to see our girls playing competitive golf at a high level," added Lyon. "I hope the girls take-away from this season is a greater confidence in their ability and themselves."

Freshman Lilah Carlson (41-43) and junior Brooke Luton (40-44) each shot 84 for the Wildcats, and junior Annie Davis carded a 112.

Madisyn Walked led Tunkhannock with a 78 (40-38), while Madelyn Bevan shot a 92, and Paige Spudi carded a 99.
