NTL GIRLS SOCCER: ATHENS SCORES LATE GOALS TO SALVAGE 2-2 TIE AT NP-M (24 PHOTOS) (October 15, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
MANSFIELD — It took more than 72 minutes for Athens to get on the board, but the Wildcats broke through the North Penn-Mansfield defenses twice in less than five minutes to rally and salvage a 2-2 tie here Thursday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action.

"The girls showed lots of grit and determination tonight," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "We were down 2-0 on a tough field to play our style of soccer on, but the girls turned it up and got two goals in the final 10 and came out with an important result to keep us in the hunt.

"We got a great goal by Everliegh (Waring) to get us within one and then Brinley (Nichols) playing her best game at striker getting the tying goal late.

"We pressed for the game-winner but just ran out of time.

"I think the girls learned tonight they have more in them as players than they knew," added Pitts. "Im looking for that to translate to Saturday and next week."

Mansfield scored with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission, then scored 89 seconds after the break to take a 2-0 lead.

Waring, off a feed from Nichols, scored with 7:37 remaining in the contest, and Nichols scored with 2:52 remaining to tie the game.

Athens had a 20-10 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Annika Lezak recorded seven saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 10-3-1, returns to action Saturday at Williamsport.
